Vrnjačka Banja is 200 to 230 kilometres from Belgrade, depending on the route. The fastest way is the motorway to Pojate and then the Morava Corridor: 1 hour 40 minutes and a toll of 1,160 dinars (about €10). The road through Šumadija takes about two and a half hours, but the toll is only 100 dinars.
The three routes at a glance
- Motorway to Pojate, then the Morava Corridor: about 1 h 40 min, toll 1,160 dinars. Motorway all the way.
- Through Šumadija via Topola and Kragujevac: about 2 h 30 min, toll 100 dinars.
- The Miloš Veliki motorway to Kraljevo: motorway as far as Kraljevo, then about 30 minutes on an ordinary road.
1. Motorway and the Morava Corridor: the fastest
From Belgrade take the A1 motorway towards Niš as far as Pojate. The Morava Corridor branches off there and runs past Kruševac and Trstenik to Vrnjačka Banja. There is a single, clearly signed exit for the town.
It is motorway the whole way and under two hours, so most drivers do it without a stop. The toll is 1,160 dinars one way for a car.
2. Through Šumadija: slower, with a stop in Topola
This route follows the motorway to the Mladenovac exit, then goes through Mladenovac, Topola and Kragujevac. After Kragujevac you turn off at Vitanovac for Vrnjačka Banja. Allow about two and a half hours.
You pay a toll only as far as the Mladenovac exit, 100 dinars; nothing after that. People choose this road for the drive itself. The usual stop is Topola, a wine town with several wineries and the royal mausoleum on Oplenac hill. On a long weekend it is worth going one way through Šumadija and returning on the motorway.
3. The Miloš Veliki motorway to Kraljevo
The third route leaves Belgrade via Surčin on the Miloš Veliki motorway towards Čačak. The motorway now reaches Kraljevo, where you leave it and continue on an ordinary road to Vrnjačka Banja for about 30 minutes.
The remaining section is under construction. Once it opens, the motorway will run all the way to Vrnjačka Banja; no completion date has been announced. This route is convenient if you start from New Belgrade or straight from Belgrade airport, which is next to Surčin.
