About the place

Topla voda (“warm water”) is the spring that made Vrnjačka Banja a spa. It is right in the centre, below the Castle of Culture, and the water comes out at 36.5 °C, body temperature, which is why it is classed as homeothermal. It is alkaline and naturally carbonated.

The Romans used the spring from the 1st to the 4th century. The first chemical analysis was made by Baron Herder in 1835, and the first bathhouse built in 1892. The same water is bottled today as “Vrnjci”. The Thermal Mineral Bath stands here too, home to the Rimski Izvor spa.

The water at the spring is free. A board by the spring lists the water’s composition and effects, so read it before you fill a cup. As a treatment, mineral water is drunk on a doctor’s advice, usually from the Merkur Special Hospital, who sets how much and when. If you have a chronic condition or take medication, ask your own doctor first.

Topla voda is a good first stop for a round of all the springs: from here the park leads on to Snežnik, Jezero and Slatina. We describe the whole walk in the mineral springs of Vrnjačka Banja. Bring your own cup or bottle.
