What to know

Vrnjačka Banja became a spa because of its mineral water, and treatment is still why many people come. There are seven mineral springs, four of them used in treatment: Topla voda (36.5 °C), Snežnik (17 °C), Jezero (27 °C) and Slatina (14 °C). The water at the springs is free, and as a treatment it is drunk on a doctor’s advice.

The centre of spa treatment is the Merkur Special Hospital. According to the hospital, its programmes are for diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity and musculoskeletal conditions. For Serbian insured patients, diabetes treatment can be covered by RFZO: the GP proposes the referral and the fund’s board approves a ten-day stay. You can also come paying yourself.

The Topla voda spring is right in the centre and the natural first stop; its water is at body temperature and was used by the Romans. The Snežnik spring is a fifteen-minute walk through the park, in the Vrnjačka river valley. Each spring has a board listing the water’s composition. We describe the whole round in the mineral springs of Vrnjačka Banja.

The information on these pages is general and does not replace a doctor’s advice. Before choosing a treatment programme or drinking mineral water regularly, talk to your own doctor, especially if you have a chronic condition or take medication.
