What to know

Vrnjačka Banja lies at the foot of Goč, so the forest is close: the first trail is just outside the spa, the mountain about twenty minutes by car. Walking and easy hiking need no special gear, just good shoes and water.

Just outside the spa is the Borjak trail, a 2.81 km walk through conifer forest, about an hour. Merkur leads a guided walk there on Monday mornings. Above the spa is Goč Mountain, about 15 km and twenty minutes by car: marked trails, viewpoints, the 1,216 m Ljukten peak, and in winter skiing on the Krst and Mali princ slopes. Goč also has Selište Lake, an artificial forest lake with three loop trails of 2.35 to 6.28 km; swimming and fishing are banned.

In summer the forest and mountain are cooler than the spa, so walks are best in the morning and towards evening. The trails are at their finest in autumn, and in winter Goč turns into a ski area, with a season of about a month when there is snow. With snow on the road, winter tyres are required.

For longer walks, download the route or a map before you set off, as the signal in the forest can be weak, and ask the tourist organisation about trail conditions. More on skiing in skiing on Goč.
